September 8, 2025 – On this International Literacy Day, more than 65 organizations from the literacy and learning sector, supporting hundreds of thousands of Canadians across the country, are urging federal, provincial and territorial governments to demonstrate strong and concerted leadership on literacy.
Over the past 18 months, organizations, practitioners, and associations dedicated to advancing literacy across Canada have come together to form the National Literacy Alliance. This collaboration shows a shared commitment to building a unified and practical path toward a national literacy strategy that supports people across the life span, strengthens social equity, and prepares them for opportunities in a rapidly changing economy.
Here is the link to the Call for a National Literacy Strategy, the result of several months of collective effort by regional, provincial, and national partners. This document is intended to serve as a key resource for the development and implementation of a National Literacy Strategy.
