You may have already received information in your mailbox about the 2016 Canadian Census. The Census is used for planning public services in your community. Some people will receive a short form, some will be required to fill out a long form. Regardless, for adults who struggle with literacy, the Census can present challenges.
The Yamaska Literacy Council can help:
- Contact YLC to set up an appointment to meet with a volunteer who can help you complete the questionnaire OR
- *Download a free kit to learn more about the 2016 Census (see below)
*Statistics Canada has created a 2016 Census Adult Education Kit to use with adult literacy or English- or French-as-a-second-language (ESL or FSL) classes across Canada.
The kit contains five activities that provide opportunities for listening, speaking, reading and writing. The activities help students become familiar with the Census of Population, gain an understanding of how the census works and how information obtained through the census is used. Students will learn where to find information when they are completing the census questionnaire, and will gain experience with important vocabulary.
